Wishlist

I was going to do a Best of 2011 post, but got sidetracked. Now I don’t feel like doing one anymore, mainly because I realized how much of a bumpy rollercoaster ride this year had been.

So instead of hurting my brain by reliving the good and bad memories, I have decided to cheer myself up with a new wishlist.

This one is more realistic. No more Bumblebee yellow Camaro with black racing stripes.

The Hunger Games trilogy books
I’ve read the first two through a PDF I found online. I got to the first few chapters of the third one, but couldn’t finish it because the PDF was coded so bad. Paragraphs ran into each other, symbols were all over the place…it was ugly. And karma, for being a pirate.

Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace DVD
I got Episodes II and III, but not this one.

Star Wars trilogy DVDs
I know, right? For shame. I’m probably the only Star Wars fan who doesn’t own the Episodes IV-VI.

Boyfriend blazer
I feel like I can wear this anywhere, any time. It’s perfect for work, semi-formal occasions, and just for chillin’ with friends.

More white v-necks

White button-up shirt

Peter Pan in Scarlet, the official sequel to JM Barrie’s Peter and Wendy. I have recently come to love Peter Pan, and this book would be like pixie dust to me.

MacBook Pro case, preferably in turquoise. Or Star Wars themed.

Must-Have Android Apps

I’m slowly crawling out from under that writer’s block I got stuck in last month. Finally, Nick got an Android phone, thereby un-alienating himself from the rest of the pack. Seriously, that cracked iPhone he had was just sad. Haha… anyway.

For some reason, my tiny HTC Aria can’t handle too many apps. Even with a 4 GB MicroSD card, I can’t install more than 15 apps without coming across the dreaded low space on internal memory alert. This sucks, because unless I take care of it, I can’t get push alerts from Twitter, Facebook, Foursquare, etc., unless I manually check the apps. This means I have to constantly delete apps from my phone.

The silver lining to this glitch (if it is one, and not just the Aria’s internal memory being as tiny as the hardware) is that I know which apps I absolutely need.

Here is a list of those apps, with links to the Android Market. Some descriptions are taken from the app pages:

  • Advanced Task Killer – “ATK is often used to kill app and clean memory.” Definitely a must-have.
  • ASTRO File Manager – Organizes files in your phone, manages apps and SD card. Whenever I download anything from my phone, I can easily find them in a specific folder through this app.
  • Dropbox – “Dropbox is a free service that lets you bring all your photos, docs, and
videos anywhere. After you install Dropbox on your computer, any file
you save to your Dropbox will automatically save to all your computers,
your Android device, and even the Dropbox website! With the Dropbox app,
you can take everything that matters to you on the go.”
  • Facebook – Of course. Too bad the Android UI is less user-friendly than the iPhone UI.
  • Foursquare – I’ve gotten addicted to checking in to places…
  • Free Music Download – Although I still have this on my phone, unfortunately, I could not find this app on the Market anymore. I think they took it down.
  • GetGlue – Check-in to movies, shows, music.
  • Gmail – I don’t really sync my mail. I get too much email and I prefer that my phone not alert me every half hour. I do use it to sync my phone’s calendar with my Google Calendar, which I love.
  • Google+ – The only thing I dislike about this app is takes up 10 MB or so, which in my case is too much. I can’t move it to my SD card either. The Huddle+ app is bundled with this.
  • IMDb
  • Little Photo – Add film and retouch effects to your photos. I use it all the time when I think a photo I want to post looks too bland.
  • Music Download Pro – Pretty much similar to Free Music Download, but it comes with a ringtone maker. I would uninstall FMD if it wasn’t such a novelty now.
  • My Days – “Easy tracking & prediction calendar for your period, ovulation and fertility.” Also helps me keep track of when I have sex. Yes, I keep track of them. I like to be careful.
  • myAT&T – Allows me to manage my AT&T account. I pay my bill through this app. I’m surprised AT&T didn’t have this app on the phone, since they bundled my Aria with useless shit like AT&T Family Map, AT&T Hot Spots, AT&T Maps, AT&T Navigator, AT&T Radio–none of which are free.
  • Photoshop Express – Not nearly as awesome as the actual PS on the PC, but good enough. I mainly use it to crop photos or tweak the exposure on dark ones.
  • Shazam – “Hear a song you don’t know? Shazam identifies it instantly.”
  • SMS Backup & Restore – Self-explanatory. Saves data on your SD card.
  • Twitter
  • TwitVid – “Twitvid is the easiest way to post a video or a photo to Twitter or Facebook.”
  • Video to Facebook – Much faster than uploading through the Facebook app.

The Overnight Bag

I am taking a break from boxing stuff because my room looks even messier than before, and this sudden topic inspired me to work on it ASAP.

If there is one important survival tip I learned from Nick and Angel, it is to always have an overnight bag in the trunk of your car. Angel has everything but the kitchen sink in hers–she’s got swim suits, weights, gym clothes, camping stuff, etc. Yes, she even has a small bag of “toys” there. Nick has just one cream-colored messenger bag, which I like to call a satchel. (I like that word…cream, not satchel.) It’s mostly filled with hair gel, stuff for his contacts, and for his teeth.

So I decided to put together mine. Unlike Angel whose Nissan Maxima is practically a boat by the trunk size alone, and Nick who’s a guy and doesn’t need more than a small bag, I shall use my medium-sized violet Jansport backpack. Just the right size without leaving anything out or overstuffing my car.

Mine is not just an overnight bag, though. Here are the essentials:

Two pieces of underwear (I always keep two unrolled, unused boyshorts handy)
Bra (preferably one with removable straps for emergency strapless-bra-required outfits, otherwise bring two types)
Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, cotton pads/Q-tips, tampons/pads, small towel)

After that, it gets broader.

I don’t pack just any random top. I pack three.

One regular t-shirt
One fancy top for clubbing (or one dress)
One button-up for semi-formal occasions, like job interviews.

For bottoms:

One pair of shorts (preferably not denim–those look too informal, and don’t always go with everything)
One pair of dark skinny jeans (those, especially the black ones, go with everything)
One pair of sweatpants, or anything comfortable and light for sleeping

I won’t even bother with skirts.

For footwear, nothing too rugged or too fancy. Stuff a thin pair of flip-flops or flats in a plastic bag so as not to soil your clothes. I have a pair of wedges in my trunk, since those don’t fit in my bag.

I also have a bikini in there, in case of impromptu swimming adventures. And I will most likely add a sweater/hoodie, gloves, scarf, socks, and headgear during winter time. Might even replace the wedges with boots.

I can survive a few hours without makeup, so I didn’t add those to my bag. Besides, I will probably have my eyeliner and eye shadow in my purse, and those two are really all I need. As for hair…I try not to wet my hair when there is no straightening iron nearby. My bird’s nest can be quite a challenge sometimes.

I didn’t date a Boy Scout leader in high school for nothing. Like he always said, always be prepared.

Lightsaber #2

Nick finished his second lightsaber last Wednesday. The process went by much faster than the first one since he already had experience building one before.

We had the usual tailpiece, the tube, more LEDs, shower head, and a switch. No PlastiDip, though.

In Carbonite

You know what would be super awesome?

This soap:

Han Solo in carbonite. Anyone who’s seen Empire Strikes Back should know this. If you haven’t, OMG.

Each soap is hand poured and then detailed with not two, but THREE pure, skin safe matte and metallic pigment depths.

I want one. I wouldn’t use it, of course. I just want one. It is currently on sale ($9.95), but was regulary $12.50.

And just because today is FRIDAY…

I wonder how long this Rebecca Black phenomenon is going to last.

I had a Pink Ranger suit when I was 7

About time someone made a brain bulb. (solovyovdesign)

Remember the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers?

Back in 1993, my Friday nights consisted of watching the cartoon Batman. But one night, Batman wasn’t on and in it’s place was this show about teenagers who dressed like the rainbow and rode around in robots. I didn’t like it at first, but after seeing the kickass-ness of the Pink Ranger, I decided to give the show a chance.

That led to me bullying my parents into buying me a Pink Ranger costume (sans helmet… we had plastic masks for those), and staying for two runs during the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie.

But who knew that the Power Rangers would evolve into Zeo, Turbo, in Space, Lost Galaxy, Lightspeed Rescue, Time Force, Wild Force, Ninja Storm, Dino Thunder, S.P.D., Mystic Force, Operation Overdrive, Jungle Fury, RPM, and just on February this year, Samurai. I’ve never watched any other Power Rangers incarnation except the Mighty Morphin one.

I think it’s time I try to relive my childhood. Be the Pink Ranger again, even though I’m no good with gymnastics.

And FYI, I wore the Pink Ranger suit during a birthday party at McDonalds, and it was awkward as hell. I never wore it outside of the house again. I think one of my younger cousins inherited it eventually.
